This is the Castanospermum Australe, or Australian chestnut. As you may be able to guess, the plant comes from Australia, where the Castano also comes from. In nature the plant can grow to a height of about twenty meters. The plant also produces yellow-orange flowers. A special houseplant!
At home, the Castanospermum Australe grows about one metre. Provided you take good care of the plant. Although taking care of this Chestnut plant is not difficult at all.
Give a large sip of water once a week. In this case, you can even give so much water that the plant almost drowns. Let the water ‘soak in’ the soil for fifteen minutes. After this you can empty the dish with excess water. For the Castanospermum Australe it is therefore important that you choose a flowerpot with a hole and saucer.
Place the plant in direct sunlight. The more light and the warmer the location, the happier you make the plant.
