How do you take care of a Succulent?

The best location

The fat plant prefers to grow in a place with enough shade. Although there are plenty of succulents that can stand well in direct sunlight. Keep in mind that the plant also gets enough hours of shade. You will soon notice when a succulent gets too much or too little sunlight. If there is too much sunlight, the leaves of the succulent will shrivel. As soon as it gets too little sunlight, it will hang limp a bit, although the latter is difficult to see with some succulent plants.

Watering a succulent

A succulent only needs to be watered once a month. In autumn to winter you can reduce the watering to once every 2 to 3 months. Let the soil become completely dry before you water the plant again. Don’t do this? Then the fat plant can suffer from root rot. By the way, too much water is the most common cause of death among Grease Plants. So you’re certainly not the only one! Good to know, you don’t make a succulent plant happy by watering it. So be sure to stay away with the plant sprayer.

Plant nutrition

A succulent uses very little water and nutrition. Therefore, feeding the plant with extra plant nutrition is certainly not necessary. Do you give a succulent extra nutrition? Then this can affect the roots and the plant. Especially if you give the plant extra nutrition in the autumn and winter period.

Repotting

You might have noticed, but a succulent plant grows very slowly. Therefore, the repotting of the plant is certainly not necessary every year. Although we do recommend repotting the plant once every two years thanks to the advantages of fresh soil. Use a flowerpot that is at least 20% larger than the previous and new potting soil.

Air purifying function

We can be very brief about it, but a succulent plant is in no way air-purifying. Succulents are naturally very slow growers, and do nothing at all to improve the humidity in a room. It is therefore better to buy another plant for its air-purifying function.

Is the succulent plant poisonous?

The succulents are usually poisonous. This is because most succulents, such as the Aloe Vera, have leaves containing juice. This juice can certainly be poisonous for children and pets. Therefore, pay close attention to striking behaviour as soon as the succulent has been eaten. Also contact a doctor directly.

Diseases and peculiarities

A succulent is not susceptible to diseases and vermin. Didn’t your plant suffer from bugs? Then you can use a hard jet of water to control the pests. If this has not helped, you can use a pesticide.
