How do you take care of a Muehlenbeckia?

The best location

The Muehlenbeckia prefers a spot with indirect sunlight. Avoid the direct sun at all times. If you expose the plant to too much sunlight, the leaves will burn. If you would like to place the plant in front of a window facing south, keep a distance of about 3 meters to the window. If you have a window facing north, east or west, you can place the plant next to the window.

Watering the Muehlenbeckia

It is important for the Muehlenbeckia that the soil remains slightly moist. This is achieved by watering once a week. It is wise to check the soil before watering. Is the soil still very wet after a week? Then give less water. If the soil is completely dry after a week, you can give more water.

Plant nutrition

From spring onwards, the Muehlenbeckia needs extra plant nutrition every two weeks. You can use Universal plant food and add it to the watering. It is important to only give plant nutrition in spring until the end of summer. As soon as you give extra plant nutrition after the summer as well, this can be harmful for the plant.

Repotting

The Muehlenbeckia is not the fastest grower. However, we do recommend repotting the plant once every two years. Provide the plant with new potting soil and a flowerpot that is at least 20% larger than its previous one. It will do the Muehlenbeckia good!

Air purifying function

As you’ve already seen, the leaf of the Muehlenbeckia is not very large. The plant is therefore certainly not very air-purifying. If the plant has a lot of stomata, then the plant cannot compete with really good air purifiers because of its leaf size.

Is the Muehlenbeckia poisonous?

The Muehlenbeckia is not poisonous. Although eating the plant, by pets or children, can always cause irritation. Always contact a doctor when taking it.

Diseases and peculiarities

The Muehlenbeckia is not excessively susceptible to pests or diseases. Should the plant still suffer from pests or diseases. In that case, use pesticides to control the unwanted visitors.
