Cat grass

Cat grass

Can't your cat stay away from all your plants? Then here's the solution: Cyperus Alternifolius. In other words, Cat Grass. A plant with the looks of grass, but for indoor use. The plant has a fresh green colour and serves as a hairball cleaner for cats. If we are very honest, Cat Grass is nothing but wild barley sown in a pot. Well, as long as the cats are happy. Or not?

How do you take care of Cat grass?

The best location

Cat grass grows best on a pitch with indirect sunlight to half shade. Shady spots! Direct sunlight is more likely to kill the plant than good.

Watering cat grass

Water the cat grass regularly. Think once every 1.5 to 2 weeks. It is not necessary to keep the soil continuously moist. We do, however, recommend putting the plant in a flowerpot with a saucer. This prevents wet feet and eventually root rot.

Plant nutrition

We don’t like to forbid anything, but plant food for Cat Grass is not a good idea. Cat Grass is specially cultivated without pesticides and other chemicals. As soon as you administer plant food, this can be dangerous for your cat.

Repotting

There is no need to repot cat grass. Most cats enjoy Cat Grass so much that the plant soon becomes bald. Before repotting is really necessary, your cat has already almost eaten the plant. Well, at least it stays away from other houseplants.

Air purifying function

Cat grass isn’t really air-purifying. Oh, what’s up with your cat! Nothing at all, right? He already likes the leaves and tastes good enough. An air-purifying function can’t compete with that!

Is Cat grass poisonous?

No, Cat grass is not poisonous. Pets and children are therefore safe!

Diseases and peculiarities

Cat grass is not susceptible to diseases or pests. Should the plant still suffer from this, you can try to spray the plant clean by hand with a hard jet of water. Do not use a pesticide on Cat grass. Pesticide is dangerous for your pets!
