Trimming the Syngonium to cuttings

How do you propagate a Syngonium?

Besides the care, the propagating of the Syngonium is also easy. A trim here and a cutting there. Little effort, little waiting time and results. How do you do that? We’ll explain it to you with love. You can read more below!

  • Syngonium
  • Scissors
  • Disinfectant
  • Flower pot with fresh potting soil
  • Optional: cutting powder

Propagating the Syngonium in 4 steps

1. Cleaning the scissors

To trim the Syngonium, you need scissors. In order not to spread bacteria unnecessarily, we first clean the scissors thoroughly.

For cleaning we use disinfectant or pure alcohol.

2. Trim the cuttings

You propagate the Syngonium by trimming cuttings of about 15 centimeters. It is best to trim the cuttings just under a knot.

If you trim the cuttings diagonally there is more chance for the cutting to grow roots.

3. Applying cutting powder

Do you have any cutting powder in the house? Fine! Then apply a small amount of cutting powder to the wound of the cutting and to the mother plant.

Don’t you have any cutting powder? No problem. Although cutting powder can make the cuttings take root sooner.

4. Place the cuttings in the ground

Syngonium cuttings grow best in soil. Keep the soil continuously slightly moist by spraying it with a plant sprayer.

After about 3 to 4 weeks enough roots have grown to treat the cutting as a small houseplant.
