How to propagate: Succulent

Most succulents come from the Amazon region. In nature the plants grow in warm but shady places. The nice thing is that succulents require little maintenance, both in nature and as a indoor plant. Succulents need little water, and they don’t have a matter about the location. Just like Sansevieria plants, Euphorbias and Cacti.

The same applies to the propagation of Succulents. Not difficult, but the process is very slow. You don’t have to look at it every day, just like its care.

A succulent plant can be propagated without the use of a knife or scissors. Although you may still need some help.

Propagating a Succulent in 4 steps

Step 1: Disinfect

First clean the knife you might be using.

Keep the knife under hot water and clean them well. This prevents you from unnecessarily transferring bacteria during the propagation.

Do you happen to have disinfectant or pure alcohol? Disinfect the tools after using hot water. Let's get away with those bacteria and fungi!

Step 2: Take cuttings

The propagation of a succulent can be done by carefully twisting off a leaf. Do not pull the leaf while twisting. Make sure that the leaf is completely loose from the stem.

Doesn’t the twisting work? Then cut the leaf from the stem.

Step 3: Propagating in soil

Take the pot with fresh soil. Place the cuttings of the succulent in a pattern on the soil. It is important to not water them!

What you can do is, spraying the cuttings with a plant sprayer to provide a higher humidity.

Step 4: Taking care of the cutting

After about 6 weeks, in addition to roots, small leaves will have grown on the cuttings. From this moment you can also water the cuttings.

The small leaves on the cuttings can also be watered after a while.

Does the cutting have sufficient roots? Then the cutting can be placed in a pot with soil. It is best to use fresh potting soil to stimulate root growth. Make sure to not water the first period.
