Propagating a Sansevieria in 4 steps
1. Disinfecting the place
First clean the scissors you are going to use. It is best to use pure alcohol or disinfectant. Then let the scissors dry, or dry them carefully.
2. Cutting or tearing
You can propagate a Sansevieria cuttings in two ways: by cutting or tearing. We prefer to use scissors, because then you have less chance of damaging the mother plant. Cut a healthy leaf close to the ground. You can also tear, but do this carefully.
3. Preparing the cutting
Cut the leaves into pieces of about 2.5 cm if you want more cuttings. Then make a notch at the bottom of the leaf. This is done by cutting a reversed V from the underside of the leaf. If you have cuttings powder in the house, apply some powder to the open wound of the cuttings and mother plant. After this let the leaf dry.
4. On water or in soil
As soon as the leaves have dried well, you can put the cutting in the water. Aren’t you a fan of cuttings on water? Then you can also put the leaves in fresh potting soil. Pour a good splash of water on top of this. Put both the cutting on water and the cutting in the ground in a sunny spot. After about one month the first roots will appear.
